I have been making my non-traditional stained glass mosaics for 25 years. My style is to use deliberately shaped hand cut larger pieces, rather than chipped small ones, that are sometimes hand painted, a technique usually only used in the making of windows. I find this to be the best way to highlight the unique streaks and markings in the art glass, details that are lost when they're cut into smaller pieces. I begin with a sketch I make into a stencil design. I hand cut the glass that is then painstakingly adhered to wood panels that I have cut, sanded and stained. The finished art is then grouted and hooked. The unique finished work is displayed in your home the same way one would hang a painting. Hung in a bright area the colours change in intensity throughout the day as the light moves across the panel.
I've spent most of my life in Toronto with many trips to cottage country. I love both the chaotic energy of the big city and slow pace of small towns. Regardless of where I am I have always sought out nature spots to indulge in present moment awareness. I now reside full time on a small rural homestead in North Kawartha surrounded by endless inspiration.
